EYFS At Broad Town

At Broad Town, we want your child feel secure, valued and confident by developing a sense of achievement through learning, both at school and at home. We strive for all our children to live life in all its fullness.

Three characteristics of effective teaching and learning underpin the activities we provide. We aim to promote:

playing and exploring - children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’

active learning - children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements

creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things

Whilst in EYFS (often referred to as Reception), the children undertake learning in the following seven areas:

  • Communication and language
  • Physical development
  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts and design

Activities in the EYFS are designed to encourage the children to practise what they have learned, develop skills further and discover new ideas for themselves. We aim to offer rich learning experiences through play and support the children to take risks and explore.

We are all working towards the same goal – happy children with real motivation to learn in a variety of ways and who want to do their best.
